  • The Museum of All Things – Maya

The Museum of All Things (or “The MoAT”) is a nearly-infinite virtual museum that you can visit for free on your computer! You can find exhibits on millions of topics, from Arts in the Philippines to Zinc deficiency! The breadth of the museum is made possible by downloading text and images from Wikipedia and Wikimedia Commons. Every exhibit in the museum corresponds to a Wikipedia article. The walls of the exhibit are covered in images and text from the article, and hallways lead out to other exhibits based on the article’s links. Deeply inspired by educational videos that I watched as a kid, and the liminal spaces produced by early CGI, I want to recapture the promise that the internet can be a place of endless learning and exploration.

  • Effort grunting – Wikenigma

There have been many attempts to explain the phenomenon. Some researchers suggesting that the grunts may somehow help with power efficiency – perhaps by increasing oxygen absorption. For example, some studies have shown that grunting can increase the speed of tennis serves. Whereas other studies with weight lifters showed that grunts don’t appear to have any effect. Another theory is that the grunts date back to communications in a pre-speech time of human evolution – with a general meaning along the lines of “I need help with this”.

  • The controversy brewing on Elon Musk’s Wikipedia page – Slate

“It’s challenging when someone with a large public following makes public calls for people to edit the Wikipedia article about them because typically the people who see those requests are not familiar with Wikipedia or its policies,” White said. “Although we love when new editors join us, trying to learn to edit while also jumping into a dispute where an article subject disagrees with the content of their article is not an easy task, and can result in challenges both for those new editors and for experienced editors trying to handle the dispute.”
